Ceremonial Cacao – World Healing Meditation

Ceremonial Cacao – World Healing Meditation

A brief explanation:– a cacao ceremony is a process of opening the heart and helps to boost the mood.  Ceremonial cacao is seen as a plant medicine which is consumed in order to elevate spiritual practises and intentions for the world, for ourselves and all those whom we love.

If you are interested, Helen Millar from www.hearthealing.co.uk offers regular cacao ceremonies which I have thoroughly enjoyed attending online – you can find out more here: https://hearthealer.co.uk/cacao-ceremony/

Cacao used in these ceremonies is chocolate in its purest form. Cacao beans or seeds come from the fruit of the cacao tree and have a distinctly bitter flavour. Cacao has been dubbed the ‘food of the gods’ in the Americas where it was first cultivated and is considered a ‘superfood’ due to the high density of essential nutrients, very few side effects and proven health benefits.  The cacao bean is full of antioxidants, fat, carbohydrates, protein, polyphenols like flavonoids that are antioxidants, minerals like calcium, magnesium, sulphur, copper, iron, zinc and potassium, oleic acid which is a heart-healthy essential monounsaturated fat, fibre and vitamins E, B2, B1, B5, B3 and B9.  There are also small amounts of vitamin A and C in raw cacao.

Cacao trees grow in the Amazon Basic, Orinoco River Basin, Ghana, Philippines, Brazil, Papua New Guinea, Ecuador, Togo and a few Caribbean islands. It has been used in ceremonies dating back to the Mayans and Aztecs. Today, the bitter bean has made its way from Latin America to many corners of the world for casual sipping and ceremonies alike.

Ingredients for creating ceremonial cacao – I purchased mine from Etsy:   https://www.etsy.com/shop/PlusCacaoShop

The amount of cacao you use may have a different effect on you so it is up to you but as a general guideline:

10g-20g is a micro serving.
20-30g medium to strong serving.
30-40g experienced serving.

For the purpose of our ceremony that was held outside on 23 September 2022 I used 15-20g per serving.

You will need:

Pan large enough for the quantity you’re making
A blender (or if not available a sieve to remove any residual gritty bits from dates if you are using)
Ceremonial Grade Cacao (15-20g as a starter measure)
200-300ml filtered / distilled / purified water (if possible) per serving
Pinch of sea salt / pink Himalayan salt
1 – 2 dates (finely chopped or blended with some of the water used in the cacao) (you could use date syrup instead – about 20 mls or to taste)
½ tsp Cinnamon (optional, to taste)
½ tsp Turmeric (optional, to taste))
½ tsp Nutmeg (optional, to taste)
Pinch of Cayenne pepper (optional, to taste)
Cashews or coconut oil (for thickness)

If you find it isn’t sweet enough you can add honey or stevia – I have previously used chocolate flavoured stevia which you can find on ebay here or amazon:

Set your intention prior to making and drinking the cacao.

Pour the water in a pan. Add the Cacao and other ingredients.  Heat to simmering (not boiling) whilst stirring gently until all the cacao has melted in the pan.  Then if using dates, blitz in a blender to ensure all the dates are smoothly blended into the mixture without any gritty bits.

Pour into your favourite mug and sip mindfully.

If you have a crystal that you want to have next to you then do whatever makes you feel at one when listening to the meditation.

After drinking the cacao and listening to the meditation, please then write down your intentions for the world on a piece of paper. Then find a safe place for you to burn your paper, releasing it to the universe to take care of.

Please take your mug of cacao and hold it close to your heart space; take a few sips and if you feel minded to do so, you can close your eyes and place a hand on your heart.  As you breathe in gently through the nose imagine your heart expanding on each in breath and contracting on the out breath.  Continue to do this for about five breaths.

Slowly drink the cacao, drinking mindfully.  You can open your eyes or keep them closed.  Click here to enjoy the meditation.
